We would like to provide this notice regarding Multi-V dies in order to clarify their technical characteristics, availability, and the approximate level of investment required for this type of tooling.
Multi-V die technology
Multi-V dies represent a traditional tooling solution, generally associated with older press brakes and machines that do not have a modern segmented or dedicated die-holding system. A conventional Multi-V die is typically manufactured as one continuous piece. On older press brakes, the die is normally positioned directly on the machine table and secured laterally from the sides. Since these machines generally do not have an intermediate die holder or dedicated clamping system, there are normally no standard fixation points between the lateral supports. As a result, installing a Multi-V die in multiple separate sections is not normally possible using the original machine configuration.
Approximate market costs
At present, as a general market indication, the approximate budget for a 90 × 90 to 100 × 100 mm Multi-V die with a total length of approximately 3 meters may be in the following range:
- Chinese origin: approximately EUR 4,000**
- European origin: generally above EUR 5,000**

The final price depends on the detailed technical specification, including dimensions, material, hardness, V-opening configuration, tolerances, machining requirements, and overall length. We would like to highlight this information because we have received requests for Multi-V dies intended for very old press brakes. In some cases, the investment required for a new Multi-V die can represent a significant proportion of the market value of the used press brake itself. Depending on the machine, its age, configuration, and market condition, the cost of the tooling may even approach or exceed a substantial part of the machine's purchase price. Therefore, we believe it is important to establish the potential tooling investment before proceeding with a detailed quotation or manufacturing request.
Production and supply details
It is also important to note that the production of a single-piece die exceeding approximately 2,000 mm in length requires specialized manufacturing capacity. Many tooling manufacturers, including ourselves, do not have the necessary in-house capacity for such dimensions and therefore need to involve qualified subcontractors or specialized tooling suppliers. For this reason, additional time and external manufacturing costs may be involved.
For any offers time of production of Multi-V die of European origin should be considered 6-8 weeks; supplies of dies Chinese origin could take around 3,5 months total to arrive in Italy.
Possible Alternative solution
If the above information is understood and the indicative budget is acceptable, we can continue evaluating your request.
However, we strongly recommend that the customer first verify the following:
- The actual V-opening sizes currently used in the production program. Which of the available grooves are genuinely required for production, rather than simply being present on the existing Multi-V die but rarely or never used
- The required effective tooling length for each V-opening
- The existing press-brake table and die-support configuration
With this information, we can study an alternative solution based on a standard Promecam-type die holder combined with sectional dies from our standard tooling range. Although the overall investment may be comparable in some cases, this solution can provide significant practical advantages:
- Sectioned tooling, allowing the die length to be configured according to the actual application
- Easier handling, installation, and replacement of individual sections
- The possibility of replacing only a damaged or worn section instead of the entire die
- Easier future purchase of additional sections or new Promecam-style dies when new applications arise
- Greater flexibility for different bending operations with reduced dependency on a single, specially manufactured long-piece Multi-V die
For these reasons, we recommend evaluating the sectional tooling solution before committing to the manufacture of a new one-piece Multi-V die.
